Miura Co., Ltd. is, by no means, a large-scale entity; recently, however, we are seeing burgeoning orders from major high tech-oriented clients such as automotive-related businesses. I believe this reflects the trust these clients have in Miura—their confidence that we will not let them down. We pursue our work conscientiously to earn such trust, which goes without saying and yet proves quite challenging. And we are further motivated when, after evaluating our overall quality, delivery schedule, and cost, clients pronounce that we are “doing good work.”
■Our corporate motto:
Quality is a reflection of good manners.
I personally have some five years of experience in the Monozukuri workplace. I feel that my background is now proving to be of considerable use in the systems we develop at Miura.
One example lies in the integrated manufacturing in our plant. I always pose the following questions:
*How can we meet the client’s needs?
*How can we lighten the client’s load?
*How can we offer the client satisfaction?
And then, this query: “If all processes were brought under the Miura umbrella, wouldn’t that give us more flexibility in responding to client needs?” That led Miura, originally a manufacturer specializing in wood molds for metal casting, to incorporate CAD/CAM in 1995, realigning our structure to integrate casting and machining into our own factories, facilitating seamless manufacturing. Our high-precision products characterized by unsurpassed quality and reliability can now be delivered to the client with even greater speed. I believe this is the main reason we have seen a substantial leap in orders for automotive parts.
We have not rested on our laurels, however. Believing that “quality is a reflection of good manners,” we will continue to strive for improvement and innovation.
“Monozukuri begins with human resource development”
Miura is investing in superior human resource development, based on our conviction that such resources are the foundation of Monozukuri.
For example, we invite individuals now retired from our client corporations and proficient in corporate management, to give lectures incentivizing each of our employees to implement cost-consciousness into our manufacturing. Moreover, brand-new Miura employees are taken under the wing of a colleague one year their senior, for orientation in each area of the company. The senior employee studies in preparation for conducting the orientation, yielding mutual benefit.
This may sound a bit unorthodox, but if a Miura employee were to leave the company for a competitor, I would hope that the individual could prove useful there. Miura’s foundation is based on development of human resources capable of functioning in any setting.
Finally, in July 2006, we obtained ISO 9001 Quality Management certification, with management and employees united in understanding the ISO spirit and the intent on compliance with the quality management system.
Respectfully,
Takanobu Miura, President & CEO
