Hydraulic press for the preparation of carbon black samples according to ASTM D3493 and ISO 4656
The HCBP is an hydraulic press engineered for the specific use of compressing carbon black according to the ASTM standard D3493 and ISO 4656 for the determination of COAN number. The HCBP is designed to be placed and operated in a chemical lab with a compact design and with particular attention on HSE aspects. The compressing chamber is a confined area accessible by opening a transparent door. On the back of the machine, a shutter allows the user to connect the system to the exhaust system of the lab (diam. 100 mm).
The press is set up to give on the sample the target pressure of 165 MPa. An analogic pressure gauge allows the operator to control the pressure of the system while compressing. A digital cycle counter helps the operator to keep count of the compression cycles already done.
Key features
• Compact design
• Easy to clean
• Ready for connection to the exhaust system
• Compressing area enclose and safe
• Pressure gauge for visual control of pressure during compression
• Digital cycle counter
Safety
• CE marking
• SGS-USTC certified

The CVST by HITEC Luxembourg is a void-volume tester, which is derived and further developed from the ASTM standard D6086 “Standard Test Method for Carbon Black – Void Volume (VV)” and compliant to the ASTM standard D7854 “Carbon Black – Void Volume at Mean Pressure”.
The void volume of a carbon black expressed as a function of mean pressure is a carbon black structure property. The greater a carbon black resists compression by having substantial aggregate irregularity and non-sphericity, the greater the compressed volume and void volume. Compressing carbon black powder breaks its agglomerates and aggregates to a similar extent as in the sample preparation for the compressed oil absorption COAN as per ASTM D3493. By measuring the decompression of the powder it is possible to derive a residual void-volume, which reflects well the COAN – this is naturally intuitive as it describes the powder in a similar physical condition (i.e. in uncompressed state after breaking agglomerates/aggregates).
With an exchangeable compression chamber, it is possible to optimize this new method for best testing conditions. Its control software, which is under constant evolution, can further determine other characteristic responses like material friction, work absorbed by compression/decompression, etc. The CVST by HITEC Luxembourg complies with the present requirements of standards on void-volume, but above all it allows to set up test methods and personalize configurations far beyond the requirements of the related ASTM method. The CVST can be used for the characterization of other powder materials (silica, ceramics, …)

Automatic equipment to determine carbon black crush strength, compliant to ASTM D5230 and ISO 8942
The Individual Pellet Hardness Tester (IPHT) is an automated tester to determine individual crush strength of carbon black pellets. The Individual Pellet Hardness Tester has been initially developed in 1993 and is in use with many international carbon black manufactures and producers of rubber products. The IPHT has been designed to provide reliable measurements of individual pellet hardness according to ASTM International and ISO standards.
This IPHT has been further optimized to facilitate cleaning and be less sensitive to vibrations. The extensive control software runs on standard Windows® based PCs and is constantly kept up to date to stay compatible with latest PC technology and to reflect possible changes to the respective standards.
