TAKCEL has two key features.
One is micro-molding using small molding machines for medical devices.
The other is injection molding using large molding machines, primarily for electronics and automobiles.
Founded in celluloid processing, the company has a long history and extensive experience in plastic molding.
Leveraging this experience, we offer prototype molding services.
What is a hollow microneedle (hollow micro-needle)?
A hollow microneedle has a space inside the needle, allowing for drug delivery while maintaining the same puncturing ability as traditional metal needles. Since microneedles are extremely small, high production technology is required to make them hollow. However, leveraging our plastic microfabrication technology, we offer microneedles capable of delivering liquids.
Additionally, to ensure effective puncture of the skin, it is considered more effective to use the microneedles together with an applicator device. At TAKCEL, we are also working on developing these applicators.
Solid Microneedles and their features
Solid microneedles are a collection of needle-shaped structures made from plastic. A drug delivery system is created by coating the needle tips or surfaces with a water-soluble solid material intended for delivery.
The needle shapes can be freely designed through mold design, allowing the production of needles tailored to the characteristics of the coated solid material.
Compared to hollow needles, solid needles can be made smaller, which allows for narrower spacing between the needles and the arrangement of a greater number of needles.
Weld lines is not noticeable
A major cause of weld lines is the rapid decrease in flowability due to the cooling of the flow front by the mold. By using heat-and-cool molding, rapid cooling of the flow front can be avoided, and the mold surface is completely replicated due to the internal pressure of the mold, making the weld lines disappear.
In other words, after the materials merge, the internal pressure increases, allowing the mold cavity shape to be transferred, completely filling in the grooves at the weld points.
