Clean suits and dust-free clothing used in cleanrooms are essential equipment for preventing the spread of particles (dust) and fibers generated by workers. However, with repeated wear, fine particles (dust) and lint adhere to the cleansuit itself. These particles cannot be adequately removed with ordinary tap water, and the residual contamination can compromise the cleanroom's cleanliness, potentially leading to serious problems in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, precision instrument, and space industries. This is where "ultrapure water cleaning" comes in.
[Difference between Pure Water and Ultrapure Water]
Tap water and industrial water contain metal-derived ionic components, fine particles, organic matter, and bacteria. Pure water removes these to some extent, but not completely. In contrast, ultrapure water, with an electrical resistivity of up to 18.2 MΩ-cm, is purified to a level where it is almost impure, enabling it to thoroughly remove particles and organic matter.
[Mechanism for Preventing Particle Contamination]
Fine particles remaining on the cleansuit's fibers may detach the next time the suit is worn, potentially transferring them to the product. Especially in the semiconductor industry, cleaning precision is crucial, as even particles measuring just a few nanometers can cause circuit failure. Ultrapure water penetrates deep into the fabric, thoroughly washing away particles (0.5 μm) and organic matter that cannot be removed with ordinary water.
[One-way control and clean environment]
To maintain the effectiveness of ultrapure water cleaning, the processes up to drying and packaging must be isolated from the contaminated environment. One-way control, in which suits are loaded from the contaminated side and unloaded from the clean side, using a barrier-type washing machine prevents cross-contamination. Furthermore, finishing and packaging are performed in a Class 100 cleanroom environment to maintain a high level of cleanliness.
During the drying process, a dryer equipped with a HEPA filter supplies a large volume of highly purified air. Lint is blown away during drying to prevent re-adhesion. During the subsequent folding process, visual inspection is conducted to prevent the intrusion of hair and other foreign objects, and only suits that meet the standards proceed to the next process.
[Vacuum packaging and quality preservation]
Inspected clean suits are sealed in special clean packs and vacuum-packed. This prevents recontamination during transport and storage and maintains a high level of cleanliness until the moment they are opened at the site. In the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, products must be ready for immediate use upon delivery, so this process is directly linked to ensuring reliability.
[Barcode management and traceability]
Clean suits are individually barcoded for management. By storing records of cleaning history, number of uses, and work processes in a database, we can respond quickly and accurately to audits and customer inquiries. This management system complies with ISO 9001 and is an important mechanism for enhancing the transparency of quality assurance.
Clean suits require ultrapure water cleaning to thoroughly remove particulates and organic matter that cannot be removed with ordinary water and prevent contamination due to foreign matter. Combining ultrapure water cleaning, one-way management using a barrier washing machine, inspection and packaging in a Class 100 clean room, vacuum packaging, and barcode management, we achieve cleanliness management that meets strict quality standards. These efforts form the foundation for quality assurance in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, precision machinery, and space industries, significantly contributing to improving reliability in the field.
