Semi-solid die casting
◆ Overview
This method performs casting after molten metal changes into a semi-solid state (slurry). There are relatively less sink marks generated in this method compared to casting from a complete molten metal state. This set-up offers more refined consistency, and, therefore, produces products that require higher pressure resistance, strength and toughness. This technique features near net shape manufacturing and can be used as an alternative to casting.
◆ Features
• High strength, pressure resistance, and toughness.
• High dimensional accuracy.
• Die lifespan increases due to low casting temperatures.
• Minimal blowholes (sink marks and air entrapment).
• There are minimal burn marks even with small draft angles.
• Minimal macrosegregation.
• Near net shape forming is possible.
• The gas contained is less than 0.7 cc per 100 g (measured in house).
