Vertical machining center is one of the types of machining center.
Various cutting processes such as milling, drilling, and finishing can be performed all-round with one unit.

Since the vertical machining center is mounted vertically (downward against the ground), the spindle moves up and down, making it easy to grasp the approach distance between the cutting tool edge and the workpiece. In the horizontal machining center, the cutting tool (blade) is horizontal to the ground that enables to cut the work piece horizontally.
The horizontal machining center is basically 4-axis control. Since it is possible to perform "four-sided machining" that cannot be done with a vertical machining center, it has lesser setup (for workpieces replacement) and there is no deterioration in machining accuracy due to misalignment.
It has automation friendly characteristics such as do not collect chips easily, lesser processing trouble, highly compatible with APC (pallet changer), which allows multiple simultaneous machining using multi-surface angle plate (jig).
